Congrats to Sophie Jacka
Congratulations to Sophie Jacka who won the LSV U13 Champion Athlete – Girls Water at the recent LSV Junior State Championships in Warrnambool on the March long weekend. This is a huge achievement and the first time a Portsea athlete has won this coveted award.
This award recognised Sophie’s gold medals in U13G surf and iron races at the Victorian Championships.
Over the same long weekend as LSV State Championships, Sophie also competed for Loreto Aquatic in Victorian State Age Swimming Championships where she raced seven events; resulting in seven medals and three national qualifying times – super swimming given she is still twelve months too young to compete at swimming nationals!
Sophie’s lifesaving strength in the water was also been seen at Portsea over summer, coming 6th in this year’s 1.5km Portsea Swim Classic Junior Women’s category – not bad for a twelve year old.
Alongside Bellsy Mahon and Bella Murchie, Sophie is one of our 2021 Junior Competition Team Captains. With the likes of Sophie and her fellow Competition teammates all about to graduate to SRC, Portsea SLSC has a depth of talent coming through the club to be our future patrollers, and role models for those new to surf lifesaving.
Our Youth/Masters/Seniors Competition team should keep a look out for Sophie at Aussies – she’s heading to Queensland to cheer for you, and while she’s up there, I’m sure she’ll be joining in a few training sessions with our Club coach and ambassador, Courtney Hancock, who’s one of Soph’s lifesaving idols.
Soph’s well known to her peers for her cheekiness, for her dedication to training and for always having a laugh with her teammates.
Congratulations Soph, we’re very proud of you!
